2016 Clean Energy CLE: Policy in the Southeast

Overview:
Development of a distributed energy resource (DER) project involves multiple policy considerations. Many of the policy considerations are legal in nature, jurisdiction specific, and subject to change on a “moment’s” notice, particularly today as clean energy policies are being hotly debated at the federal, state, and local levels. Using a Late Show-style “Top 10 List” approach, this day-long continuing legal education program (CLE) will inform attendees, in each session, of 10 existing/new legal considerations in a particular jurisdiction. Sessions will focus on federal law, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia law. The CLE will conclude with a session designed to inform attendees of 10 legal considerations for DER projects that include battery storage.
The CLE can accommodate attendance by 100-140 attorneys and business professionals.
Breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks will be provided to attendees.

The North Carolina and South Carolina state bars have approved the course for 5 hours of general continuing legal education; applications are pending with the Georgia and Virginia state bars.

Desired Outcome:
Attendees will leave the CLE with a better understanding of:

• legal considerations in four jurisdictions relevant to practitioners working in the Southeast (federal, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia or Virginia),

• legal considerations for projects that include battery storage.

In addition, attendees have the opportunity to network with professionals who can serve as resources and provide future assistance with particular legal and regulatory project development questions as they arise.
