The NC Sustainable Energy Association (NCSEA) announced the newest additions to its Board of Directors, marking the next generation of leadership of its more than 45-year-old clean energy policy advocacy organization.

This year, the Board will be joined by Bridget Herring (City of Asheville), Shasten Jolley (Greentech Renewables), Emily Barrett (Central Pines Regional Council). These individuals join with decades of experience leading clean energy nonprofits and corporations and will bring that foresight and expertise to the table to guide NCSEA into the next era of the clean energy transition in North Carolina. Ken Dulaney (NC State University FREEDM) will serve as chair.

“I’m thrilled to welcome these individuals to the Board of Directors, given their depth and breadth of experience in accelerating the transition to affordable, reliable, and clean energy resources,” said NCSEA Executive Director Matt Abele. “Their expertise, combined with our existing slate of board members, will be instrumental in ensuring NCSEA continues to serve as a leading proponent for the economic benefits afforded by the clean energy economy. I’m also excited to see additional representation from local government and distributed energy resources as we continue to work with both industry professionals and elected officials to drive smart, bipartisan clean energy policy in the state. I look forward to further growth and success in clean energy policy and market development throughout the state with the guidance and insight provided by our Board of Directors.”

Bridget Herring (City of Asheville, Asheville, NC) – Herring has more than 10 years of experience in environmental project management, policy, outreach and education including initiatives pertaining to comprehensive carbon reduction strategies, renewable energy programs, green building and resource management policies, and national energy code development. As sustainability director for the City of Asheville, she implements strategies to achieve carbon reduction, renewable energy, waste reduction, food policy, and climate resilience goals. She is a member of the North Carolina Building Code Council and North Carolina Clean Energy Fund.

Shasten Jolley (Greentech Renewables, Garner, NC) – Jolley has more than five years of experience in the solar industry working as a manager for Greentech Renewables, the largest solar distribution company in the U.S. With an extensive on-site inventory paired with specialized logistics services out of their facility in Raleigh, Jolley and his team provide fully-kitted solar equipment packages to residential and commercial installation companies across the state. They also provide support with project financing, engineering, and installation training. Outside of work, Jolley enjoys traveling, exercising, and anything that involves the outdoors.

Emily Barrett (Central Pines Regional Council, Raleigh, NC) – Barrett is the Environment & Resilience Director at Central Pines Regional Council, a regional local government serving 47 county and local government members in Wake, Lee, Moore, Durham, Chatham, Orange, and Johnston counties. She is a strong believer in the power of local government collaboration and enjoyed coordinating a strong local government and private sector partnership to conduct the Solarize the Triangle campaigns in 2022 and 2023. She has an M.S. in Environmental Science and Engineering from the School of Public Health at UNC Chapel Hill and a B.S. in Biology from the University of Alabama.
